Making It With Allie - A Quilt for Theodore

Hello friends!
I had such a busy week last week, I only JUST realized that I totally missed last week!
Please forgive me?

Earlier this year, a very dear friend of mine, Stacee, asked me to make a quilt for one of the athletes she trains.
They would be welcoming a beautiful baby boy into their home, and this would be a gift.
To begin, Stacee showed me a quick video of the nursery.
I can't find the video at this point, but it was SO cute!
Gray painted walls with white trim and then adorable mod birch tree decals.
All around were cute little woodland animal plushies.
SO cute.  I must say.

So, Stacee and I worked together to prepare a fitting quilt that had some great sensory woodland animals.
It worked out really well.
Each little animal has a different texture.
And I was even able to make some birch tree silhouettes with some white heat transfer and black satin.
Have a look!

The little fox was appliqued with layers of furry wool.

The tree frog is appliqued satin.

The little hedge-hog baby is layers of satin with blanket stitch for some texture.

The little baby quail is layers of textured satin.  I wish the texture showed up in the photo...

The little owl is wool with a satin beak.

The little bunny rabbit is eyelash plush.

I love this little doe with the spots and a touch of pink in the ear.
The little raccoon is layered satin with lots of stitch texture.

So, this week, after little baby Theodore's name has been settled on, Stacee brought me the blanket, and the birth information was embroidered on the bias binding.
I blurred out his last name for anonymity, but I did want to show you the fantastic font called
Wade Grotesque Casual Swash.
It's one of my favorites and I think it works perfect with the mod quilt.

The reverse is super soft plush in teal.
I love the stuff.
I know the ladies at the cutting counter hate when I have it in my cart.
But kids just LOVE the stuff!
It worked out well, I think!
What do you all think?

Now, it's time for the
Making It With Allie Party!

Making It With Allie - Easter Dress 2012

Hello Friends!!
How was your recent holidays of Easter and Passover?
Ours was lovely!
I love this age with kids.  They love to celebrate and learn about these fun holidays.
We did a night-time egg hunt with glow in the dark bracelets and plastic eggs.
We did a traditional Egg hunt on Sunday morning and we are still finding eggs...

I prepared Miss AuBrynne's Easter dress.
Actually, I made another one, but the fabric was being, shall we say, Cranky.
When I worked in the costume department, we called it "woodjy".
The fabric was certainly being woodjy.  I tried adjusting stitch length and needle size and even doing bias seams. Nothing helped to make the fabric cooperate.  I really don't know why I waited till I was hemming to just start again.  I guess I thought I could salvage it.  I couldn't.
So...... Thursday night, I started over.
AuBrynne and I quickly established what design she wanted and I took a deep breath.
But, it went SUPER fast!
And it turned our adorable.
I nearly had to wrestle it off her for bed that night.
She LOVES to wear it.  And her little kitten-heels we found for her.

So hear are some "blustery wind" (as AuBrynne says) photos from our Sunday morning egg hunt.
We live in the Chicagoland area, but the winds lately have been RIDICULOUS!
They were coming from every direction Sunday.
Anyways...

Somebody thinks she is a high-paid model...

And a sassy "model walk", haha.

Those two bottom teeth are almost all the way grown in!  I'm going to miss the lost-teeth-lisp.

AuBrynne insisted on this photo because you can see her shadow.
She is REALLY into Peter Pan right now.
Now, it's time for the

Making It With Allie - Easter 2012 - A Quilt

So, you know how last week, I promised to have Miss AuBrynne's Easter Dress ready to show you?
Yea, I am hemming the tiers just now when I remember that tonight is Wednesday and the baby is in bed...
So, I didn't get pictures of her in it.
You will have to stop by next week to see it.
But one of the projects I DID finish this week was a quilt for one of my gal-pal's little boy.
He wanted a cuddly, cars and trucks themed quilt.

So, I went to work to make him a snuggly he could even play with his race cars...
When I brought it to him, he was TOO cute for words about it.  I'm SO glad that he's happy!
